বাংলা থেকে ইংরেজি করার সময় Abstract nouns and articles -এর ব্যবহার বিষয়ে ধারণা থাকা খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। তাই এ অধ্যায়ে আমরা Abstract noun এবং article-এর ব্যবহার গুলো বুঝার চেষ্টা করবো।
Rule:
Abstract noun-এর পূর্বে কোন article ব্যবহৃত হয় না। এই noun গুলো plural number-এও ব্যবহৃত হয় না। এই noun গুলো সাধারনত: uncountable noun.
Example:
- স্বাস্থ্যই সম্পদ – Health is wealth.
- সততা শ্রেষ্ট পন্থা – Honesty is the best way.
- দারিদ্র একটি অভিশাপ – Poverty is a curse.
- দয়া একটি মহৎ গুন – Kindness is a great virtue.
- এই বিষয়ে তার কোন জ্ঞান নাই – He has no knowledge of this.
- এই সমস্যার কোন সমাধান নাই – There is no solution to this problem.
- আমি তার আন্তরিকতায় মুগ্ধ হয়েছি – I am impressed with his sincerity.
- প্রত্যেকেই সুখ ও শান্তি চায় – Everyone wants happiness and peace.
- রহিমের সাহস প্রশংসনীয় – Rahim’s courage is commendable.
- ক্রোধ মানুষের শত্রু – Anger is man’s enemy.
- তার অধ্যাবসায় নাই – He has no perseverance.
- তার ইতিহাসে জ্ঞান নাই – He has no knowledge of history.
- হামিদের বুদ্ধি নাই – Hamid has no intelligence.
- বিনয় একটি মহৎ গুণ – Humility is a great virtue.
- তার নিষ্ঠুরতা বর্ণনাতীত – His cruelty is indescribable.
- তাহার সততা সর্বজনবিদিত – His honesty is well known to all.
- হিংসার দ্বারা কোন সমস্যার সমাধান হয় না – Violence does not solve any problem.
Rule:
নিদির্ষ্ট কোন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর কোন গুন, কার্য বা অবস্থা বুঝাতে abstract noun-এর পূর্বে article ব্যবহৃত হয়। এক্ষেত্রে উক্ত noun-টি common noun রুপে গণ্য হয়।
Example:
- এই স্থানের সৌন্দর্য্য খুবই চিত্তাকর্ষক – The beauty of this place is very impressive.
- এই ছেলেটির স্বাস্থ্য খুব ভাল – The health of this boy is very good.
- ছেলেটির সততা সন্দেহাতীত – The honesty of this boy is beyond doubt.
- তার শিক্ষকের দয়ার সীমা ছিল না – The kindness of his teacher knew no bounds.
- তার এ কাজটি করার সাহস নাই – He does not have the courage to do this.
- তারা এই গ্রামের শান্তি নষ্ট করেছে – They have ruined the peace of this village.
- তাজমহলের সৌন্দর্য্য সকলকেই আকর্ষণ করে – The beauty of the Taj Mahal attracts everyone.
Abstract nouns and articles-এর এ ধরণের ব্যবহার জানা থাকলে আমরা সহজেই বাক্যে material noun-কে ব্যবহার করতে পারবো।
